Dione - Saturn's Moons Slideshow

Saturn's Moon Dione This image shows Dione with Saturn in the background. The horizontal stripes near the bottom of the image are Saturn's rings. The spacecraft was nearly in the plane of the rings when the images were taken, thinning them by perspective and masking their awesome scale.

Dione, like most of Saturn's moons, is a grey world, with no atmosphere, and covered with craters. Dione has the traditional round shape of a larger moon. It is a moon with tectonic faults and an icy surface. Astronomers believe that Dione has a geologically active past. The spherical sized moon is about 1,100 kilometer across.
